30-09-2015

MECAL HIGH-SPEED MACHINING CENTRES ACCELERATE COMPONENT MANUFACTURE FOR NEVILLE PRECISION Neville Precision Engineering, one of the UK’s leading names in the design, prototyping and manufacture of aluminium extruded products, has taken delivery of two high-speed MECAL CNC machining centres from Addison Saws. Fastest CNC machining centres of their kind The machining centres – both 4-axis MECAL MC 307 Falcon models – have an X-axis traverse speed of 150 mpm and are believed to be the fastest CNC machining centres of their kind. They will be used to produce in excess of 40,000 aluminium door sill plates a year for one of the world’s premier automotive brands. Staying ahead of the competition “Choosing the MECAL MC 307 Falcon machines from Addison Saws has enabled us to stay well-ahead of our competitors in terms of capability and helped secure this extremely important contract,” comments Neville Precision Engineering’s Managing Director, Edward Neville. “Their purchase also underlines our commitment to regularly invest in manufacturing technology in order to remain at the leading edge.” Technological advancements The MECAL MC 307 Falcons purchased by Neville Precision Engineering have axis speeds that are nearly double those offered by the nearest competitor. Coupled to technological advancements, such as fibre-optic plc communication for rapid data transfer and ultra-precise absolute smart motor servo drives, they are already bringing significant benefits to the company’s production strategies. “Had we not opted for the MECAL MC 307 Falcons, we could quite easily have required three standard machines, ” adds Edward Neville. Automatic tool measuring To accelerate the replacement of consumable tooling, both MC 307 Falcons are equipped with automatic tool measuring. This system was retrofitted to the first Falcon CNC machining centre and then fitted as standard to the second machine. Addison Saws and MECAL also worked closely with Neville Precision to ensure that each machine’s software fully met the firm’s demanding production requirements. ‘Stepped up to the mark at every stage’ “We have received excellent service from both Addison Saws and MECAL,” concludes Edward Neville. “Both organisations have stepped up to the mark at every stage of the process and certainly helped make it possible for us to win the automotive contract.”
