Bloodhound’s new home in Leith

22-10-2014

She has spent the early part of the year in dry dock to allow refurbishment work and Blake’s were commissioned on a new bespoke stainless steel fuel tank which we produced to the exact specifications of ‘Britannia’s’ chief engineer Derek Miller. Built in 1936, ‘Bloodhound’ is one of the most successful ocean racing yachts ever built and was acquired by the Royal Family in 1962. Both Prince Charles and Princess Anne (whom also featured in our May newsletter) learnt to sail on her in the Western Isles and Prince Philip had much success competing with her at the famous Cowes Week. Bloodhound Pictured Prince Philip (in white cap) at the helm ‘Bloodhound’ is now on view to visitors for most of the year, however is available to charter in July and August and is currently sailing from Oban on the west coast. Why not visit ‘Bloodhound‘ and ‘Britannia’ at the Royal Sailing Exhibition or even charter her with a compliment of ‘Royal Yachtsmen’ for the ultimate sailing experience. Details can be found at www.britannia.co.uk and please click here to watch ‘Bloodhound‘ in action
