Kitting out ‘The Kitchin’

14-05-2015

The Metal Centre has recently assisted Guthrie Contracts, with the expansion and refurbishment of Michelin starred The Kitchin, at Commercial Quay on Edinburgh’s Shore. The Kitchin, run by internationally renowned chef and TV star Tom and wife Michaela, achieved it’s Michelin star just six months after opening in 2006 and has been one of Edinburgh’s hottest eateries ever since. The expansion responds to the restaurant’s recent award as the UK’s Best Restaurant by the Observer. Kitchin said: “We’re taking the biggest step it’s possible for us to take. Just saying that makes me go weak at the knees.” Pictured below is the refurbished Kitchin, with exposed steelwork, fabricated and supplied by the Metal Centre. Fitting out 'The Kitchin' The project to extend the restaurant involved large sections of exposed steelwork and was carried out to very strict timescales as the main restaurant was only closed for 30 days over Christmas/new year 2014/2015. The existing Kitchin Restaurant was doubled in size by their acquiring the adjacent property, the steelwork was for the support of very large openings in the existing stone walls to enable the two properties to be enlarged. Alan Robertson, owner of Guthrie Contracts commented: “We employed The Metal Centre to fabricate and supply the new steelwork inclusive of baseplates/corbel details. The finished steelwork is exposed and treated with intumescent materials prior to a paint finish. In our dealings with the Metal Centre over the last ten years we have found them to be very reliable in terms of cost and delivery and have no hesitation in using them for future projects.” Visit Guthrie Contracts by clicking - www.guthriecontracts.co.uk To find out more about The Kitchin and their “Nature to Plate” philosophy follow www.thekitchin.com
