Powder Coating Pre-treatment

29-06-2016

Edmo Powder Coating have the resources to treat all ferrous and non-ferrous metal substrates in our powder coating pre-treatment tanks. Our background and core business means that aluminium constitutes a high percentage of our throughput, but we also process a vast array of other materials including all steel grades. We have made significant investment in our complete Powder Coating plant over the last few years and our powder coating pre-treatment tanks have been completely renewed, giving us maximum flexibility and processing efficiency. The tanks configuration result in Edmo powder coating being able to pre-treat numerous substrates and products simultaneously, giving us the ability to react to customer demands in an efficient and timely manner. Why do we pre-treat The purpose of pre-treatment is to remove foreign matter such as: Cutting oil Grease Soil Scale Residual Oil Oxide Films and to Provide corrosion protection Modify the surface for enhanced adhesion of coatings Modify the surface for enhanced adhesion of adhesives Pre-treatment processing Sequence Alkali de-grease Water rinse Polymer conversion coating Demineralised water rinse Demineralised water rinse Metal conversion Coating Demineralised water rinse Demineralised water rinse Drying Our pre-treatment system is audited continually to ensure quality systems are maintained and all chemical and temperature levels are optimised for maximum processing efficiencies. All pre-treatment chemicals are supplied by industry leading manufacturers and allow Edmo to commit to levels of pre-treatment that are at the cutting edge of industry standards. Alternative method – Solvent Cleaning Neutral based solvents do not attach to the base metal and is the cheapest and best method to remove heavy or sticky cutting oil, grease and other foreign matters from the surface prior to powder coating. A rag soaked in a suitable solvent solution is used to wipe the parts in preparation for powder coating. This method has the advantage of being extremely flexible, especially on heavily soiled products and used in applications that we feel standard pre-treatment and surface preparation techniques do not cater for.
