GGB Cited in Article on Bearing Wear July 15, 2016Back GGB Bearing Technology received prominent mention in a recent article in Eureka, a U.K.-based publication for design engineers. Titled “What to wear?” the article examines the problem of wear and what bearing manufacturers are doing to minimize it in their products. Among the factors discussed are bearing design, materials, production, applications and operating conditions. GGB Bearing Technology is cited as the inventor of self-lubricating metal-polymer plain bearings with the introduction of DU® 60 years ago. This breakthrough lead to a series of advances, resulting in “stronger, more durable and environmentally friendly lead-free bushings and bearings that perform well under harsh conditions in both dry and lubricated applications.” These products include DX®, the first thermoplastic lined bearing material designed especially for grease and oil lubricated applications, DP4, DP4-B and DP31. The article concludes with examples of “Ancient solutions,” noting the Egyptians’ use of tree trunks as roller bearings in the construction of the pyramids; the discovery of wooden ball bearings in the remains of Roman ships; da Vinci’s drawings of ball bearings in his design for a proto-helicopter; and others.
