Are Peli cases suitable for medical equipment?
20-12-2020
Due to COVID-19, the demand for medical supplies and equipment has increased all over the world. Emergency services require more PPE (personal protective equipment), ventilators, and diagnostic tests than they ever have before. And to ensure these supplies are delivered safely, the demand for plastic protective cases has also seen a dramatic rise.
That’s where we can help, here at Hofbauer.
As a leading UK supplier of protective cases, we stock a range of products that are perfect for transporting medical supplies. Take, for example, the Peli case. This is regarded as one of the very best in the industry – and here we explore why it’s particularly suitable for use during the pandemic.
Three reasons to choose the Peli Case for medical supplies
Chemical-resistance
Peli cases are made from polypropylene copolymer (i.e. a thermoplastic). And, as such, they demonstrate fantastic chemical and corrosion-resistance and are very easy to decontaminate.
In fact, according to the manufacturer, the outer shell can be sanitised in several ways. The easiest method is to wipe the surface using a moderate solution of soap and water. However, bleach, disinfectant sprays and alcohol wipes are all viable options that won’t affect the case’s integrity.
This is particularly beneficial at the moment. COVID-19 has been shown to survive on plastic for up to 72 hours or longer. But by using a Peli case, professionals can quickly and effectively sterilise the plastic – before entering the healthcare environment – and limit the risk of spreading the virus.
Strength
Polypropylene copolymer also has a high strength-to-weight ratio. That means, although it’s a relatively soft and lightweight plastic, it’s incredibly tough and demonstrates excellent impact strength. What’s more, Peli cases are manufactured using a technique called ‘injection moulding’. And as a result of these factors, they’re both crushproof and drop-resistant.
Once again, these are very useful features for the transportation of medical supplies. The Peli case will fully protect the equipment inside and ensure it arrives at the healthcare facility intact.
IP67 rating
All Peli cases are fitted with an O-ring watertight seal and double-throw latches. As a result, they have an IP (International Protection) rating of 67 – and offer total protection against dust ingress and water immersion. They also benefit from an automatic pressure equalisation valve.
This means they’re completely impenetrable. Once stored inside, medical supplies will be shielded against all outside elements – and, therefore, will arrive at their destination in perfect condition.
