Under the BSA, MEP contractors must demonstrate competence and compliance, as well as maintain the "Golden Thread of Information". This refers to the comprehensive web of information that captures details about a building’s construction, materials, fire safety measures, and other critical elements throughout its lifecycle.

To meet compliance standards, MEP contractors must:

• Use products with certifications, product passports, traceability, and European Technical Assessments (ETAs).
• Ensure installation operatives possess the necessary skills, knowledge, experience, and behaviours (SKEB) to install products correctly.
