Type AAF clamp specified for Sky-Pool structure

31-08-2016

The sky-pool is on the bottom floor of the three-story fitness and leisure complex, which bridges the gap between the two towers, over 100 metres above New York City. The structure creates a new landmark for the area and sets a new standard for architectural design and innovation.   The sky-pool allows residents to swim between the two buildings while enjoying magisterial views of midtown on one side and Queens on the other. As well as a bar and fitness centre, the sky-bridge holds the utility rooms for the two buildings and unifies them. It's also a feat of modern engineering: the structure itself is made out of steel trusses that weigh up to 421,000 pounds.   A connection was needed for securing steel grid to the trusses, onto which facade panels were installed. The brief required a secure, durable and long lasting connection without drilling or welding. Several connections were evaluated before it was decided that Lindapter clamps were the best choice for the steel grid to be attached to the steel trusses. The engineer specified Lindapter’s Type AAF clamps due to their onsite adjustability, high strength capacity and longevity. The lateral adjustability allowed a quick and convenient installation without drilling or welding. Moreover, the self-adjusting design allowed contractors to easily move and secure the frame into position, saving time and money on the project.
