Certified Safety Pneumatic brake system ROBA®-linearstop tested by TÜV Süd With its ROBA®-linearstop, mayr® power transmission has developed a reliable safety brake specially designed for braking and holding linearly moved masses. It has long been tested by the TÜV (German Technical Inspectorate) as a full-quality safety brake a while ago. Now, mayr® has also had its pneumatic clamping unit certified by the TÜV Süd (Southern German Technical Inspectorate). The linear brakes available on the market today usually function as static clamping units and are designed to hold axes safely at a standstill. However, people may remain under suspended loads during operation, maintenance or even during the production process, without the load transfer having been made onto the mechanical linear brake. If the drive were to fail completely in these operating conditions, the linear brake alone would be responsible for the reliable deceleration of the load and the safety of the operators. Therefore, the ROBA®-linearstop clamping units by mayr® power transmission are dimensioned so that they are also suitable for emergency braking procedures. And this has now also been confirmed by the TÜV Süd. “In addition to the required testing criteria for holding brakes, we have also conducted 100 dynamic braking actions with our pneumatic clamping unit during the certification procedure by the TÜV Süd“, explains Bernd Kees, the Product Manager at mayr® power transmission. “This test, which is not normally part of the TÜV test for holding brakes, was important to us, as dynamic braking actions occur repeatedly in practical application.“ The pneumatic clamping unit was therefore tested under realistic conditions and was able to fulfill all the requirements without any trouble at all. In addition to this clamping unit, mayr® power transmission offers another pneumatic version of the linear brake, which has been inspected and confirmed by the TÜV Süd as a full-quality dynamic braking device a while ago. It easily fulfils the basic test principles for emergency braking actions with holding function for linear movements of the Berufsgenossenschaftlichen Instituts für Arbeitsschutz (Trade Association Institution for Occupational Protection, German abbreviation: BIA). This basic test principle defines 1 million switchings, both with load transfer and without, as well as an additional 1000 dynamic braking actions.
