New Research Assistant starts at ALT

03-03-2014

ALT has welcomed a new Research Assistant to the company Ms Shuo Guo. Ms Guo will be working on the TSB sol gel project, and she will carry out this work in collaboration with her studies at the University of Manchester, where she is currently undertaking a PHD in Materials. The title of her PHD is “The generation of Titanium oxide prepared by laser induced sol gel method for dye sensitised solar cell applications”. During her time at ALT she will be applying the knowledge acquired from her studies in applied physics and design and technology instrumentation and modelling to examine new sol gel techniques. She will be developing new sol gel recipes at both ALT and at the university to increase corrosion resistance, and create distinct particle structures with a large surface area. She will be heavily involved in the recording and analysis of the results of the sol gel project, and will be involved in techniques, such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), residual stress analysis, corrosion resistance and hardness testing, and scanning for flaw detection. She is very enthusiastic about researching these new recipes and in improving the methods used for forming new metal matrix composites. She is also happy about the facilities and the friendliness of the team at ALT.
