Chain & Sprockets

A gear system consists of a chain and sprocket along with a sprocket wheel that has either teeth or cogs. This includes a perforated chain that can be tracked or consists of indented materials. A chain and sprocket is most commonly used in machinery that has a rotary motion transmission located between two gear shafts. The most basic form of chains and sprockets can be found in tracked vehicles, motorcycle and chainsaws but this can change depending on the efficiency you need as well as the mechanism. Agricultural and industrial machinery generally uses chains and sprockets instead of V Belts and V Pulleys as it transmits mechanical power efficiently. Chain and sprocket is commonly found in printing presses and conveyors. There are two major standards when it comes to chain and sprocket. This is the British Standard and the American Standard, the difference between the two is defined by the dimensions of the chair and sprockets. The British standard chains and sprockets conform to ISO 606 B, BS 228 and DIN 8187 European standards while American standard chains and sprockets meet the ANSI standard B29. At Bolton Engineering Products we cater for both standards of chains and sprockets and we have a number of options for you to select from.Tensioners make it possible to sustain a continuous tension around chains and sprockets because of the adjustable tensioner arms. Pilot bore sprockets are simplex sprockets and are often seen in industrial machinery, bicycles and motorcycles.Sprockets that come with a Taper Lock mechanism are known as Taperlock sprockets and they are used to eliminate keyway problems and in re-boring.Platewheels offer variable pitches and are hub-less sprockets.Roller chain is the most common form of power transmission, consisting of short cylindrical rollers joined together by side links. It interlinks with the sprocket teeth and rotation between the two creates reliable and efficient power transmission. Roller chain and sprockets are used on a wide range of applications from bicycles to industrial and agricultural machinery. Roller chain and sprockets provide high power, synchronous drive systems and are manufactured from high quality materials and finished to tight dimensional tolerances. British & American standard, 1/4" to 2" pitch is available from stock and in a wide range of materials and finishes such as steel, stainless steel and nickel plated. Such components will permit the functioning of precision a gear system. Sprockets are available with either a pilot or taper bore, the latter designed for use with pre-machined taper bushes that are finished with the required bore and keyway size.
