Protocol Converters
Protocol Converters can be used to interface and control various devices but are primarily aimed at controlling cameras from any Bradley Engineering control system. Individual camera control protocols are embedded in the unit and output in the right format for the connected camera or other device. Input and output connectors are avaialbe in a variety of options. Input: XLR3 or XLR4 Output: XLR3, XLR4, Dsub 9, Dsub 15, Molex 50, Molex 100, Hirose 4, etc. The unit also contains a regulated 12v, 2A power supply suitable for many cameras including the BE_HD10 Mini HD Camera. Power can be supplied from either the input or output connectors. If supplied via an XLR4 input connector then the output power is regulated via the internal PSU. An additional feature is the built-in, bi-directional motor driver. This can drive small motors, (up to 0.75A) for features such as external iris control. RS485 data will work up to 1km but sending power will only work for shorter runs. Longer runs may require a higher input voltage perhaps 20v or more to get enough power down the cable. For long distance operation a local PSU should be used in conjunction with a Y cord to split the power and data feed into the Protocol Converter. Alternatively, use the XLR3 input option and supply power back from the camera. Up to 10 units can be connected in a daisy chain manner to a controller. You can also use a Remote Data Distribution Box. The Protocol Converter does all the data and error handling internally. Each unit recognises its own ident which can be changed from the controller. The majority of camera settings are stored in the head, even when power is removed. When power is restored the Protocol Converter resets the camera settings to those when power was removed. For the BE_HD10 this process takes about 5 seconds and requires the camera to be connected before the Protocol Converter is powered up. Data and power can be supplied via the same 4 core cable and are connected to the unit via an XLR4. If an XLR3 is fitted then power should be supplied back from the camera via the output connector.Visit the Bradley Engineering website for more information on Protocol Converters
