The future comes apace... Following the recent appointment of a new Chief Dental Officer in the form of Sara Hurley and, at the time of writing (6th May 2015), the impending results of the General Election, dentistry is a particularly exciting profession to be part of at this time. How I wish we had a crystal ball to see what happens next. But, in the meantime, DBG’s pledge to you is that we will always strive to be up to date with – if not in front of – everything happening within dentistry so that you can rest assured we are able support you not matter what’s in store. Take, for example, the change from essential standards to fundamental standards (CQC-England only). As soon as this modification was announced we made sure our resources were directed appropriately and the fruits of that labour our now benefitting our members. On that note, if you haven’t logged in recently to our Member's Area then please do so as soon as you can as there is lots of great new content, including a table that provides the new 2014 fundamental standards next to the relevant 2010 regulations and 2010 outcomes, Taking on the role of Chief Dental Officer, Dr Hurley commented: ‘The role of Chief Dental Officer remains a crucial link between decision-makers, patients and the wide range of front line providers that enable dental health. I am determined to use this position to articulate the dental health needs of our patients and, working collaboratively across the breadth of the dental healthcare profession, present directly to Ministers and NHS leaders our fresh ideas; ideas that will contribute to achieving our shared goals of quality health outcomes and better oral health for all.’ We look forward to the fruition of this ethos, and helping you meet whatever challenges may come your way during this time of change. Remember, we’re just a phone call away and we’re always delighted to hear from you.
