Benefits of HDPE vs Cast Iron

08-09-2014

Waterfront manufacture a range of our products, including flap valves and penstocks, in HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). Although we still supply products in cast iron, our focus is on HDPE due to the many benefits it has compared with Cast Iron including that it is lighter, cheaper, easier to install and has no ‘scrap value’ meaning it is not attractive to thieves. [heading]The many benefits of this material include:[/heading] • Products are lightweight Easier to lift and transport Easier installation Much reduced head loss • UV Stable Will not become brittle in direct sunlight, design life of 25 years • Shock Resistant Can withstand and absorb debris strikes • High Operational Temperature Range +85 degrees C -65 degrees C Can be operated in constant ambient temperatures within this range for sustained periods • Fully Recyclable Giving a much lower carbon footprint • Can be easily formed to suit any installation type Flat wall mounted Spigot mounted On an angle for tidal situations
