04-08-2016

Hydra Capsule recently supplied a hydraulic jacking and monitoring system for transferring a newly constructed bridge worth £5.5 million near the Manchester Airport. The huge 1,500-tonne structure was approximately 100 metres in length, was built beside the motorwar and then transported and lifted into position. The project to install the new bridge is one of 121 in the Government's two-year £300m improvement scheme by improving road safety and tackling congestion bottlenecks. The works involved using a mixture of 200 tonnes and 360 tonnes hydraulic jacks, interlinked pumping sets, controlled by individually synchronous pumps. With real-time load and movement monitoring at all the applicable locations. Once the bridge had been positioned. The bridge was lowered onto the hydraulic jacks to transfer the loads for the transportation units. Once completed, the bridge deck was surveyed and adjusted by the hydraulic jacks to the specified level(s). The cylinders were mechanically locked-off with a screw-thread isolation nut for the installation of the bridge bearings and curing of the supporting plinths.
