Lindapter: Embracing Our Legacy, Shaping the Future
18-07-2023
Lindapter's story began in 1934 when Engineer Henry Lindsay (1873 – 1954) introduced a groundbreaking concept for connecting steelwork: a simple and efficient clamping method instead of the traditional, time-consuming drilling or welding approaches. Lindsay's innovative idea, which would revolutionize connections on countless projects worldwide, was the result of his prior experience and inventive mindset.
The first product introduced was the Lindsay Bolt Adapter, a single casting that transformed an ordinary bolt into a hook bolt. This versatile solution gained rapid popularity and led to the amalgamation of the words "Lindsay Adapter," giving birth to the renowned brand name. In 1935, the original Girder Clamp was developed to securely connect steel sections, and it remains one of Lindapter's pivotal product lines to this day.
During World War II, Lindapter's products played a vital role in constructing temporary structures like air-raid shelters and Bailey Bridges. These clamps provided a quick and convenient method to connect prefabricated steel panels to bridge frameworks without the need for welding or drilling on-site. Lindapter's solutions were also utilized in projects such as Mulberry Harbours and PLUTO (Pipe Line Under The Ocean), which supplied fuel to the Allied forces during the invasion of France.
In the 1950s, Lindapter expanded its reach to other countries, including the United States and Australia, by exporting its products.
Lindapter's connections became increasingly prevalent in major infrastructure projects worldwide, ranging from airports and bridges to sports stadiums. Their products were even used in the construction of military aircraft. Furthermore, Lindapter's solutions found applications in shipbuilding, securing piping and electrical cables to withstand the demanding conditions of sea travel.
In 1981, Henry Lindsay Ltd was rebranded as Lindapter International to reflect its growing global presence. Since then, Lindapter has continuously developed new products and expanded its operations worldwide.
One noteworthy product development in recent years is the Hollo-Bolt, a high-strength structural bolt specifically designed for hollow sections, tubes, and other walled structures. The Hollo-Bolt offers a quick and easy alternative to welding or drilling, providing reliable and durable connections without compromising the integrity of the steelwork.
The extensive product range has continued to expand, now encompassing connection solutions for steelwork, composite decking, building services, and steel flooring. Lindapter's customer-centric approach is evident in its commitment to providing "Technical Solutions" tailored to unique customer requirements. Services like connection detailing (offered free-of-charge!) and bespoke product development ensure that Lindapter's customers always find the ideal connection solution.
Over the past 90 years, Lindapter has grown from humble beginnings into a reputable global brand. It remains dedicated to its proud heritage of inventing and delivering "Technical Innovation in Steelwork Connections."
Today, Lindapter stands as a global leader in steelwork connection systems, offering a wide range of products used across various industries. The company continues to innovate and develop new solutions to meet the evolving needs of its customers while upholding its commitment to quality, safety, and reliability.
