Precision toolmakers Nidum Precision Sister division to Magor Designs, is investing heavily in developing new engineering talent at the Resolven site it shares with the Magor design studio. Nidum has 3 local lads in the Modern Apprenticeship programme with Neath Port Talbot College. A level of talent investment not seen since the nineties. Steve Griffiths, Head of Design commented: “At Magor we focus strongly on giving a cradle to grave design and manufacture service utilising the manufacturing capabilities of Nidum to complement our design in a seamless service. We are very committed to developing and extending our skill base.” “ We made the decision that we were going to invest strongly in growing our own”, added Mark Davies, Operations Director. “At Nidum we our reputation is based on our service and performance – it’s part of our culture and the team feel very strongly that we are best instilling the correct skills and work ethic from day one”. CURRENTLY HIRING: TWO WORKSHOP TRAINEES under the Jobs Growth Wales Scheme with the plan that they join our Apprenticeship Programme in 2013. Nidum’s three Millennium Protégés are: Scott Lloyd, 21 from Llwydcoed, Aberdare. Formally of Aberdare Boys Comp. Successfully completed his Modern Apprenticeship with Nidum on 1st September. Has just commenced A Foundation Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering at Swansea University. New man Jordan Williams, 17 of Brynhyfryd, Swansea. Formally of Llangatwg Community School. Completed the Foundation engineering Course at Neath College this summer and commences his Modern Apprenticeship studies next week. Luke Jones, 20 of Brynhyfryd, Swansea. Formally of Amman Valley Comprehensive. Luke joined Nidum on completion of his Foundation in Engineering Course and is now in Year 2 of his Modern Apprenticeship. Jason Morris, Team Leader has taken responsibility for co-ordinating the Apprentice Development programme. “The lads are doing well, thanks to a lot of effort on their part and great support from my fellow Toolmakers here at Nidum. The practical skills learnt with us balance well with the college based programme at Neath College.
