Alwayse and the Millennium Bridge

28-08-2013

Here at ALWAYSE Engineering we have had a helping hand in the reopening of the Millennium Bridge, they provided 68 specially designed Stainless Steel Ball Transfer Units, which can work in unison with the viscous dampers which have been added to the bridge. These dampers are part of an extensive scheme of work which has been designed by Engineering Consultants Arup and were fitted by Cleveland Brudge UK Limited. A prototype ball transfer unit from ALWAYSE Engineering was tested thoroughly by Arup for some 56.25 million cycles, then subjected to 1000 hours of salt spray for corrosion and a further 11.25 million cycles before the unit was finally put to use on the bridge. These Units have been made entirely from stainless steel due to the highly corrosive environment they are operating in and are seated on hardened stainless steel plates.
