As part of a huge $ 1.6 billion Global Gateway Programme for Continental Airlines/Port Authority of New York Alwayse Engineering provided 110,000 of the ‘805’ series Ball Transfer Units. The new $ 35 million terminal at Newark International Airport is part of Continental Airlines expansion plans in order to handle the expected growth of air cargo over the following decade. Against strong competition the units were chosen for their rugged design and proven performance at numerous different locations across the World. Alwayse in the USA (May 2002) Richard Smyth, Continental’s Director of the Global Gateway Project said: “It represents a major commitment by the airline to provide cargo handling capabilities at our Newark hub”.
